   The Futures Wheel

The Futures Wheel is one of the most common methods employed by futurists. It is a method for organising thoughts and exploring the future.  It can be compared to structured brainstorming and is aligned closely with mind mapping, a similar futures methodology. 

It is a simple graphic organiser that allows for a representation of complex interrelationships between trends and is a useful futures research method designed to systematically capture qualitative expert knowledge. The futures wheel allows researchers to identify and present secondary and tertiary consequences of trends and events.
